I studied linguistics in college, but didn't seem to fit into a traditional academic career path and eventually realized I preferred doing work with visual expression. I ended up mostly doing drafting and CAD work to pay the bills, while creating calligraphic card designs to send to friends and family for the holidays. This hobby has evolved recently into more frequently creating calligrams, or images made from words, using words in many languages, like those featured in this slideshow.
I have been a member of London Grove Monthly Meeting in PA since 1973, and now live in Washington DC. This is the first FQA event I've had chance to participate in, as I'm still working on learning how I can spend more of my time making my artwork and earn a living.
