ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jennifer Elam has been a Quaker since she fell in love with God in a new way in the rich silence of Berea Friends Meeting (in KY) in 1991. In 1993, Parker Palmer came to Berea and told her about Pendle Hill. In 1996, Jennifer became a resident student at PH and ended up staying in PA, quite involved in wider Quaker endeavors, for many years.

She is from KY and essentially lived a double life, traveling back and forth frequently, especially from 2012-2020 to care for her aging parents then to work on estate settlements work. Also, from 1969-2014 (when she retired after complications from breast cancer), Jennifer studied, researched, taught and practiced psychology, the last 13 years as a school psychologist at the preschool level, her favorite age. While at PH, Jennifer developed art and writing as spiritual practices that have continued.

When the Corona hit, Jennifer realized she could no longer live the PA/KY double life and has now moved back to Berea, KY where she lives in an apartment in the Friends meeting house. She has been intensely living NEW BEGINNINGS.
